Special Processes
13th June 2016

Future’s most recent NADCAP (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) certification has been the most challenging for the business, which explains why it’s particularly proud of this achievement.

NADCAP is an industry-managed approach to conformity assessment of 'special processes' that brings together technical experts from prime contractors, suppliers and representatives from government to work together and establish requirements for approval. Future is one of very few SME businesses to be recognised by the scheme and is certified by the NADCAP Management Council for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

Arash Hatefi explains: “It was really important for us to have achieved all of our other accreditations before going for NADCAP. It’s incredibly tough to get so we felt it was right to work towards it step by step to ensure we had the most robust processes and procedures in place. We felt this approach would give us the best chance of being successful the first time we went for it.

“The auditors are absolute experts in their field so they're extremely thorough and their expectations are high but after a rigorous four day visit, we were successful. This means that Future is certified to conduct Non-Destructive Testing in-house, bringing significant benefits in cost and lead times for our customers. In fact, we’ve been able to reduce lead times from minimum two weeks on each batch to less than three days.”

“Under NADCAP we are approved to carry out special processes that check the integrity of parts up to two metres in length, ensuring they are free from manufacturing defects. These processes are Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Acid Etch Inspection (AEI), all carried out by specially trained, qualified personnel in our dedicated NDT area.”

Craig Peterson says: “In particular, NADCAP has enabled us to truly become a one-stop shop for our customers from manufacture, production and R&D through to material testing, processing and delivery. With greater control in-house proven by all of the accreditations we have, we are able to provide a better portfolio of services to a variety of industries and this is fundamental to the continued growth and success of Future.”
