Future AM has some of the world's most advanced skills for producing aerodynamics models. Extremely high levels of accuracy and finish are required in the machining of inherently unstable parts. We offer a comprehensive service, starting from CAD requirements, through manufacture to final finishing and project integration. The team at Future AM integrates seamlessly with manufacturers to provide a virtual in-house facility.  Secure pathways are available to transfer original data between Future AM and manufacturers.

Work is typically started at an early stage of the design. Changes in both electronic and drawing data are carefully monitored to keep pace with production. Communications systems within Future AM's teams are designed to manage multiple changes in a multitude of components. This is one of our great strengths and continues to win repeat business.

Model Types

Future AM manufactures aerodynamic models to three basic specification requirements:

  • Low Speed Models
  • High Speed Models
  • Cryogenic / Transonic Models

Future AM has a dedicated team manufacturing and supplying aerodynamic models internationally and offers an ability to achieve huge differences of scale from two metre body and wing core components to rotor blades, miniature inserts and assemblies which require micro-machining and five axis drilling.

Pressure plotting of models makes use of  Future AM's 7 axis EDM drilling capabilities. For instance, accurate 1mm dia holes are achievable up to 300mm long. Surface pressure plotting down to 0.3mm dia is achieved through simultaneous 5 axis drilling employing automated feature recognition software capable of generating tool-paths for different hole sizes.

Each component part is supplied with a full inspection report as a direct comparison with the original CAD Model. High Speed models are manufactured to general tolerances of 50 microns. Cryogenic models are supplied to tolerances of 25 to 30 microns.
